Hello!
Here is a little bit about me…....
I moved to Northumberland 26 years ago from Hertfordshire with the intention of staying for a year or so...26 years later I have well and truly put down lasting roots and Northumberland is definitely my home.
I studied art at foundation level, went on to study Sculpture at Brighton and Wolverhampton where I worked mainly in found/recycled materials on a very large scale. I undertook an Art Therapy Foundation course at Queen Margarets in Edinburgh, I then completed an Art PGCE in Lancaster going on to teach at Secondary school level in Gateshead. I left teaching to return to running the family business where I have been for the last 21 years or so.
When I moved to Northumberland I was lacking studio space and time to pursue my sculptural ideas & I was inspired by the amazing clouds & vast coastline to take up photography, I still enjoy photography but wanted to find a medium that I could physically 'play' with, mould, move, construct ....
Quite a few years ago now, I did a wonderful printmaking workshop with Janet Dickson, I was truly inspired and felt I had found the medium that suited the way I had always wanted to work. I love the way I can take ink on and off the plate, mark make using any and all materials; the way I can use a roller like a paint brush, the freedom, the incredible colours, the quality of the ink itself. The plates before they are printed look so vibrant and alive, they have a life of their own, a fleeting existence as they change once placed on the printing press. The excitement, trepidation of not knowing exactly how my print will turn out….often it is not until the monotype has completely dried that you truly see how it looks. It’s an exciting world to spend time in, it can be an emotional rollercoaster, a day in the studio is fulfilling. Printmaking generates its own heat and atmosphere from the inks...
I have gradually been building up my studio practice over the last 10 years, carving out a little more time here and there in between full time work and a young family. I have been delighted to be invited to Rheged Great Print for the last 2 years, exhibited at Alnmouth Arts Festival, The Woodhorn Museum, Gallery Number Four in St Abbs, The Bellwether Gallery, Gallery 45 at Felton, The Ship Inn at Newton and I have recently been invited to be the featured artist in the Hatton Galleries March, April, May newsletter.
